Explanation by manufacturer
high speed AF telephoto zoom lens
Ideal for users who want to actively enjoy shooting in various outdoor scenes such as travel, hobbies, family events, etc.
Advanced AF & compact telephoto zoom with a shortest shooting distance of 0.95m
High image quality
This is an approximately 5.5 times telephoto zoom lens that can obtain an angle of view from medium telephoto to super telephoto range. It has a lens configuration of 14 elements in 11 groups, and uses 1 special low dispersion (ED) glass to effectively suppress spherical aberrations, chromatic aberrations, etc., and to achieve precise depiction with little color bleeding from wide to tele and enhanced contrast and resolution from center to periphery.
Shortest shooting distance 0.95m
In addition to achieving a minimum shooting distance of 0.95 m by adopting the rear focus system, the lens does not stretch during AF, so it is easy to use, and is suitable for a variety of outdoor, sports, and landscape photography.
Newly developed pulse motor
Since the PLM pulse motor is directly connected to the lead screw to drive the lens, there is no operating noise associated with gear rotation, and it is quiet. In addition to following the subject smoothly when shooting movies*, it also has the advantage that motion sounds are difficult to be recorded. It is much faster than previous models, and is ideal for fast-moving subjects such as sports.
Quiet autofocus and electromagnetic aperture suitable for shooting videos
The K-mount lens uses an electromagnetic aperture for the first time. When used together with the PENTAX K-70, smooth and highly accurate exposure control is possible in video mode. Thus, natural automatic exposure can be performed even when there is a large change in brightness during video shooting, and in combination with the adoption of a PLM (pulse motor), it is difficult for focus driving sounds and aperture operation noises to enter the video while providing smooth focus tracking and exposure control. Smooth video shooting is possible in places with large changes in brightness, such as on a stage or in a forest with sunlight filtering through the trees, or on moving subjects such as sports or animals.
Pentax interchangeable lenses are subject to strict quality control not only during the design phase, but also during the manufacturing phase. All completed lenses are measured in a wide range of areas, such as resolution, contrast, color tone, various aberrations, etc. with measuring instruments developed independently, and objective numerical evaluations are carried out. Efforts are being made to stabilize quality, such as readjusting lenses that deviate even slightly from strict standards.
In-body image stabilization mechanism (SR)
The Pentax K-series digital single-lens camera has an image stabilization mechanism SR built into the camera body. Since blurring is corrected within the body, lenses can be freely designed to pursue depiction performance without being restricted by optical systems or mechanisms for image stabilization. Another advantage is that the lens can be made compact. Furthermore, the 5-axis image stabilization mechanism SR II (mounted on the PENTAX K-1 Mark II/ K-1/KP) can also correct rotational blurring that is not compatible with in-lens image stabilization.
Adopts a splash-proof structure
Adopts a splash-proof structure that makes it difficult for water droplets to enter the lens by applying sealing to 11 locations throughout. By combining it with our DSLR camera body, which has a splash-proof structure, reliability has been improved in rainy weather, fog, and places where splashes of water are applied.
SUPER PROTECT COATING (SP COATING)
A special coating unique to Pentax lenses that has high water and oil repellency. It is used on the first surface of the lens, and not only does it prevent dust, water droplets, oil, etc. from adhering, but it also makes it easy to remove dirt even if dirt does adhere. Furthermore, it has excellent scratch resistance and is scratch-resistant. It is used in many PENTAX lenses and has a great effect on protecting the lens surface.
High speed AF
By driving the focus lens, which was 93.6% lighter (*1) by the rear-focus system, with a PLM (Pulse Motor) directly connected to the lead screw, we achieved a speed increase (*2) and quietness of approximately 8.3 times on the wide-angle side and 1.7 times on the telephoto side compared to the current lens (*1). Furthermore, when used together with the PENTAX K-70, it is possible to achieve smooth AF and shorten AF time with an improved algorithm that makes AF information exchanged between the lens and body more accurate. In addition, the manual focus operability of the power focus has also been improved, rotation detection accuracy and responsiveness of the distance ring have been enhanced, and the focus lens can be driven smoothly according to the operation of the distance ring. *1: Compared to our lens “HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mmF4-5.8ED WR” *2: K-70 viewfinder when shooting AF, AF.S, when shooting still images, when driving from infinity to 1.5m subjects
