The Story of BEARPAW
In 2001, young Tom Romeo was searching for a sign to help him choose between his two passions. Like many people, Tom has a special place, his "happy place," where he finds time to meditate and listen to nature. While sitting on a special rock on the shores of Lake Tahoe, a huge bear suddenly stopped a short distance away from him, stared directly at him for a moment, and decided to move along without confrontation.
This magical experience had to be some kind of sign, prompting Tom to explore the meaning of this encounter. Tom soon learned that bear crossings are considered signs of good luck and symbolize strength, while also serving as a guide for many who find themselves stranded. Tom was skeptical; he knew this was his opportunity to start his own shoe company, founded on this magnificent animal. The name BEARPAW is a tribute to his chance encounter with a bear in Tahoe.
Shortly thereafter, a BEARPAW boot style called the EVA was born. Since then, the EVA has evolved into the ELLE boot, which remains the most popular shoe style in the company's collection. Both the EVA and ELLE embodied the BEARPAW lifestyle with their warmth and effortless style.
