Introduction to the Kutani Ware Technique: Ginsai. A sublime color beyond description. This design features a transparent or five-colored glaze applied over silver foil. Its subdued brilliance, gentle shine, and glass-like texture are characteristic. While its dazzling appearance requires an extra firing in the kiln, this is actually a highly intricate technique. (Technically, it's not silver foil.) Thinner silver foil would melt, so this extravagant technique requires a thickness approximately seven times that of silver foil.
