This leather is made from vegetable-tanned cow kip leather, dyed and processed at a factory in Sumida Ward, Tokyo's downtown area. Skilled artisans hand-pigment the leather with a natural dye, then meticulously apply wax by hand. Finally, the leather is baked and pressed with a high-pressure iron to create a beautiful luster. The hand-applied wax creates a rich, deep color with a contrasting hue. This process, known as "pool-up," whitens the folded sections, allowing for a unique aging experience that reveals each individual user's unique personality. While initially stiff, as is typical of tanned leather, it will soften and become more comfortable with use. Maintaining this leather in good condition requires little use of leather care cream, and simple dry wiping is all it takes.
