The Y31 Cedric/Gloria, launched in 1987, featured a significant change in styling, incorporating more curves and modern styling than its predecessor. In addition to the existing Brougham grade, a new Gran Turismo model was added, featuring improved sporty performance. It debuted targeting a younger, more active demographic, replacing the existing conservative demographic.
A minor change in 1989 saw major changes to the exterior, including revised rear combination lamps, the addition of an intercooler and a change to higher-octane fuel, which increased maximum output from 185hp to 210hp for the VG20DET engine, and the adoption of the world's first 5-speed automatic transmission.
The late-model Cedric makes its debut. Gran Turismo SV.
