This product shattered the notion that watches were delicate jewelry requiring careful handling, and was the result of [Casio] engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Employing a triple-protection design for parts, modules, and cases, G-SHOCK offered a radically new type of watch resistant to strong shocks and vibrations. Its practicality was quickly recognized, and its unique appearance embodying that functionality became immensely popular, leading to explosive sales in the early 1990s. G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio technology (described below), and new materials to achieve even greater durability.
