■[Ichuudo] Characteristics of the Nanbu Tetsubin
The Nanbu iron kettle boasts a 900-year history as a traditional craft of Iwate Prefecture, characterized by its simple and warm texture that deepens with use. The exterior of the iron kettle has a lacquered finish, and the interior is rust-proofed using the traditional technique of kama-yaki (kiln baking). (This traditional technique involves firing at approximately 900 degrees Celsius with charcoal, forming a film of triiron tetroxide on the surface to prevent rusting. The boiled water is rich in easily absorbed divalent iron, which is effective for iron supplementation.)
