This is a Sukajan (men's souvenir jacket) from the Tailor Toyo brand by Toyo Enterprises. Souvenir jackets, commonly known as ``skajans,'' began shortly after the war, when jackets were embroidered with oriental patterns such as eagles, tigers, and dragons, as well as images of the troops the soldiers belonged to, as souvenirs for American soldiers stationed in Japan. The company that was involved in its origin was Minato Shokai (Minato Shokai), the predecessor of Toyo Enterprises. ``Tailor Toyo'' started as a port merchant in the 1940s, and continues to inherit its history and experience as the sukajan label of Toyo Enterprises, which was established in 1965.
This sukajan is reversible and has no padding, and has an embroidered pattern on both sides. The material is reversible 100% acetate satin fabric on both sides. This fabric has a deep matte luster similar to silk on both sides, a soft texture, and a drapey feel. This skajan uses fabric that reproduces the texture of that time. The fabric has a vintage feel such as uneven weave and wrinkles.
