Shoki statues were introduced to Japan during the Heian period, and during the Sengoku period, Maeda Toshiie and Honda Tadakatsu used Shoki as their banner. It is widely known that Maeda Toshiie rose to become the governor of Kaga with a fief of one million koku, and that Honda Tadakatsu fought in 57 battles in his lifetime without success. During the Edo period, Shoki statues began to be displayed on display during Boys' Day (May 5th) to pray for the healthy growth of children. Even today, Shoki statues are beloved by many as guardians of disaster prevention and exam success. Why not cherish them by placing them on a shelf or in your entryway?
