It also remains a cultural element in rituals and is used in Shinto ceremonies such as prayers. The front side of the paper has a smooth surface, while the back side has a rougher texture. Generally, printing is done on the smooth surface, but you can also print on the rougher side if you prefer a more textured look. There is no right or wrong way to use either side, so please use whichever you prefer.
