This is a completely new type of French horn, using a tube length one octave shorter than a standard B♭ single horn. It's in the key of High B♭. Since it uses a standard French horn mouthpiece, it's easy to switch to from a regular French horn. It's suitable for a wide range of uses, including a young child's first French horn, practice in small spaces, horn ensembles, and stage performances.
A mini pocket horn, a long-awaited instrument for horn players. It opens up many possibilities, not only for horn ensembles, but also for use as a post horn or a substitute for a corno da caccia.
Playing it is very simple. It's supported at two points—the bell and the lever—and played just like a French horn. The PFH-500 is in the key of a B♭ single French horn, one octave higher, but the fingering is the same as for a B♭ single French horn. When reading standard French horn sheet music written in F, you'll need to reinterpret it in B♭, just like with a B♭ single French horn.
While the main parts, including the bell, are made of brass, the outer tuning slides are made of nickel silver, which provides just the right amount of resistance. Despite its compact size, it offers a solid playing feel and produces bright, rich overtones.
